Today, Dr. Mohamed Shaker, Minister of Electricity and Energy, witnessed the signing of a contract for the implementation of the Damietta Control Center affiliated to the North Delta Distribution Company (NDEDC). The project includes the establishment of an advanced distribution control center in addition to the supply and installation of 175,000 smart meters made by the El Sewedy Electrometer Group.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Within the framework of the continuous efforts of the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy to develop electricity distribution networks in order to improve the level of service provided to subscribers, raise the efficiency of power distribution systems, reduce energy losses, as well as the duration of power outages, improve the quality of service and transform the electricity distribution network into a smart network, a contract signing ceremony for the implementation of JICA Lot 3 was held between the North Delta Electricity Distribution Company and Siemens AG, which aims to establish a Damietta control center in addition to the installation of 175 thousand smart meters that are supplied in alliance with the El Sewedy Electrometer Group, a world leader in the field of meters with reading and remote control systems capabilities, at a total cost for the project of around 31 million euros, in addition to about 225 million Egyptian pounds. The project implementation period is expected to be 30 months, as part of the plan to improve energy efficiency in electricity distribution companies (EG-P36), funded by the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA).<\/strong><\/span>
\nThe overall JICA project aims to implement (4) control centers, which will be implemented in three Lots, in addition to installing about one million smart meters within the distribution companies (Alexandria – North Cairo – North Delta).<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Furthermore, in light of the efforts exerted by the electricity sector to improve service performance and network development, a plan has been developed to implement and establish (47) control centers in the electricity distribution networks in several phases distributed geographically throughout Egypt, which will monitor the electricity distribution network and improve its performance as well as help the country in meeting the needs of population growth in the country in addition to the requirements of industrial development.<\/strong><\/span>
\nAlso, within the framework of expanding the installation of smart meters, the pilot project for the installation of smart meters and the establishment of data centers and their communication methods has been completed within the scope of 6 distribution companies (North Cairo, South Cairo, Alexandria, Canal, South Delta, Middle Egypt) as part of the electricity sector plan to provide electric energy for all uses with a high degree of quality and raise the level of services provided to citizens.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

A tender has also been issued to install smart meters in distributors, kiosks, transformers and large power users with a number of about 530,000 smart meters within the second phase of implementing the smart meters project. Procedures are being completed to contract with companies whose offers have been accepted within the scope of each distribution company.<\/strong><\/span>
\nIt is expected that these projects will achieve goals for the benefit of the subscribers and companies, including eliminating subscribers’ complaints about bills, reducing the loss rate in distribution networks, reducing the cost of regular meter reading, detecting cases of theft and tampering with meters, eliminating closed and delayed meter readings, and rationalizing consumption by following up the subscriber’s daily and monthly loads.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n
