L&T announces successful completion of the prestigious Toshka 2 \u2013 Wadi Halfa power project<\/span> <\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0L&T Construction, the construction arm of the US $ 21 billion technology, engineering, construction, manufacturing and financial services conglomerate Larsen & Toubro, announced the successful completion of the prestigious Toshka 2 \u2013 Wadi Halfa 220 kV double circuit overhead transmission line project.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The Provisional Taking Over Certificate (TOC) was received from EETC (Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company) on 21st<\/sup> November 2019 after completing all comments made by the client. The Overhead Transmission Line will in all probability be energized in the first quarter of 2020 post the completion of work on the Sudanese side that is being handled by a different contractor.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Brief description of the project:\u00a0 The project stretches over 103 km with 306 towers including two special Nile Crossing towers that are 174 metres tall and weighing up to 202 tons each and with a crossing span of 685 meters. Geographically, the line passes through the sub-Saharan desert widely known as \u2018Rub-El-Khali.\u2019 Being in proximity to the international border near Argin, the complete line is under the strict surveillance of the Egyptian Army and Border Military Intelligence.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Availability of proper communication network, the non-availability of various resources and extreme climatic conditions were some of the major challenges faced during construction. L&T was yet able to deliver the project in around six months involving more than 50 qualified engineers, supervisory staff together with several machines and heavy equipment. At peak times, about 450 workers and over 40 vehicles were engaged.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n
