L&T – REVOLUTIONIZING POWER INFRASTRUCTURE
Stepping up power infrastructure
With global demand for energy rapidly increasing, countries are tapping ‘green sources’ to bridge the power gap with smarter and secure solutions for optimizing resources and effectively managing power distribution. This shift towards renewable energy will necessarily call for strengthening of power grids especially the increasing adoption of gas insulated substations and extra high voltage transmission lines which will in turn create opportunities to set up new infrastructure.

L&T Construction is the construction arm of Larsen & Toubro, the US$ 21 billion, Indian technology, engineering, construction, manufacturing, and financial services conglomerate that operates in over 30 countries worldwide. Ranked 14th among the top 250 global contractors by Engineering News Record, L&T Construction is also India’s largest construction organization offering EPC solutions with single-source responsibility for executing large industrial and infrastructure projects from concept to commissioning.

Setting powerful benchmarks
L&T Construction’s Power Transmission & Distribution (PT&D) business vertical is a leading global EPC player primarily in India, Middle East, Africa & ASEAN regions – in the field of power transmission and distribution offering integrated solutions and end to end services ranging from design, manufacture, supply, installation and commissioning of transmission lines, substations, underground cable networks, distribution networks, power quality improvement projects, infrastructure electrification, solar PV plants, battery energy storage system and mini/micro grid projects. This business vertical has set benchmarks in capacity, complexity and speed of execution which encompasses over 29000 ckm of transmission lines of various voltages up to 800 kV, more than 720 AIS/GIS substations including India’s first 1200 kV AIS and 765 kV GIS as well as 32150 MW of E-BoP for thermal power plants.

A growing track record in Africa
In Africa, L&T’s presence is growing across the power sector by executing vital transmission and distribution projects, the latest being an order from Electricidade de Mocambique for the construction of 400 kV Chimuara Nacala overhead transmission line in Mozambique. Other significant projects include: 400 kV substation at Chlef, 220 kV substation at Bougezoul, 220 substation at Drra Errich and Rehabilitation works in Hassi Berkine region in Algeria; 60/22 kV substation, 60 kV aerial line and 60 kV underground cabling at Dakhla and 400kV Midelt transmission line in Morocco; Sokhna 500kV gas insulated substation, 500kV gas insulated substation at Ras Ghareb, 220kV Toshka transmission line and 220kV North Hurgada transmission line in Egypt; 500 kV HVDC transmission line and distribution package in Kenya; 400 kV & 220 kV substations of ADDM&G, 220kV Dallol GIS and distribution package in Ethiopia; Distribution package in Uganda; 400 kV substations at Phombeya & Nkhoma and a distribution package at Blantyre in Malawi, 500 km of 400 kV transmission line and a 400 kV substation in Botswana.
In addition to building infrastructure for the power sector, L&T Construction is also executing a water distribution pipeline project in Tanzania and an integrated light rail-based urban transit system in Mauritius.
Banking on inherent strengths
As one of the prime players in the power sector, L&T is well prepared and well placed with its unique combination of engineering, design, procurement and construction expertise to tap the rising opportunities and ensure a winning edge for its clients.
