Today morning, Dr. Mohamed Shaker, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, headed a high-level delegation, that included a number of leaders in the electricity sector of Egyptian authorities and private sector companies operating in this field, to Congo to search for ways of cooperation between the two countries.
Not only the visit aims to discuss the possibility of Egypt’s participation in implementing Inga Dam Project next stages to activate the electrical link project with Inga; but also to discuss ways for joint cooperation between the two sides and to increase the volume of joint projects implemented by the egyptian companies working in the electrical field.
Additionally, they are examining ways to facilitate the egyptian participation in the Inga Dam Project; stressing that the importance of Egypt’s role in the project execution through the Egyptian private sector with the support of the Egyptian government; which was agreed upon through a political declaration between the two countries during the visit of the Congolese Prime Minister and Republic of Congo’s Minister of Energy to Egypt, in 2016.
Additionally, Shaker assured the egyptian government’s support to the Democratic Republic of Congo in all fields; especially, the electricity field. He clarified that all the egyptian capabilities are available to serve the electricity sector on its soil.
Such a visit comes as a confirmation of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of Egypt and the Egyptian political leadership for many purposes.
Firstly, to strengthen the cooperation with African countries; secondly, to enhance the Egyptian presence in these countries; thirdly, to activate the Egyptian government policy represented in the electricity and renewable energy sector. As a support to enhance cooperation with the African countries to attain the benefits for all parties; finally, to benefit from the huge hydroelectric potential present in the brown continent.
